Slag op de Zuiderzee weekend

Saturday 14 October, 20:00-23:00
Reflections on the exhibition Your Gold is not Our Glory by Inez Piso-Tuncay (guided tour) and Inèza Messack (lecture and singing).

On 14 and 15 October, young and old celebrate the fact that Hoorn freed itself from the Spaniards in 1573. Thus we commemorate the importance of freedom, but we also reflect on what freedom means in our present time. At Hotel Maria Kapel, artistic director Inez Piso-Tuncay will take visitors through the exhibition Your Gold is not Our Glory, which features several works by artists from Indonesia. The exhibition sheds new light on the so-called 'Golden Age' - a time of unprecedented prosperity in the 17th century, but also one of oppression and exploitation of all who were subjected to the Dutch colonial regime. How can we provide the darker sides of history with a more inclusive perspective?

During the evening (see programme), systemic coach and singer Inèza Messack will throw her perspective on the themes dealt with in the exhibition through a short lecture complemented by singing.
