Sijben Rosa, 'A little bit like the soul'

on view in the cinema: 20 May to 30 June 2023
open: Thursday to Saturday, 13:00-17:00

Artist Sijben Rosa’s project A little bit like the soul reconsiders heteronormative mechanisms around care through a sculpture created by Sijben with which four people who identify as queer live together for a week. What new forms of togetherness and care might emerge in this way? The artist further developed this exploration in an interactive performance during the premiere & opening.

In the film, Sijben explores the relationship between objects and people - where the social, political and aesthetic status of objects make us aware of our position in the world. The way we interact with, interpret and give meaning to objects can turn them into a catalyst for human interaction and dialogue. The object the performers in
the film live with is an undefined entity that subverts existing categories and meanings. It embodies something that is difficult to grasp, but nevertheless adds something essential to the setting. The presence of the object is noticeable and yet elusive, a little bit like the soul.
