HMK is looking for boardmembers!

Starting January 2026, we are looking for two board members who are eager to share their knowledge and experience and help shape the future of HMK Hotel Maria Kapel in Hoorn. The role includes participation in four board meetings per year and occasional advisory moments, amounting to approximately 3 hours per month. The board role is on a voluntairy basis and non-remunerated.

The current board of Stichting Hotel Maria Kapel consists of:

Maja Bekan (Chair), Klaas Visser (Secretary), Suat Öğüt (Board Member), Rosa De Graaf (Treasurer), and Csilla Klenyánszki (Board Member). As Klaas Visser and Suat Öğüt will be stepping down, we are looking for two new members. Once the new composition is complete, a vote will be held to determine the new distribution of roles within the board.

Stichting Hotel Maria Kapel welcomes enthusiastic board members from diverse professional backgrounds. Ideally, we are looking for individuals who identify with some of the following key competencies:

  • You have an affinity with culture and contemporary art. We are looking for an ambassador for the residency program and related activities taking place in the chapel.

  • You are familiar with HMK’s current position within the cultural institutional landscape and are aware of developments in this field. You are also prepared to help think about HMK’s future positioning.

  • You are able to convey the foundation’s vision and have a well-developed social and political awareness.

  • You are a connector, with a broad network—preferably a local (municipal/provincial) one.

  • You quickly gain insight and overview, can assess policy at a high level, and are comfortable asking critical questions that test HMK’s core values against its direction and decisions.

In the current board composition, we are specifically looking for the following competencies. Do you recognize yourself in any of these? Then your contribution would be especially valuable to HMK:

  • You have experience in employment practices: HR, organizational psychology, inclusion, representation or diversity work, outreach, engagement or public programming.

  • You have financial acumen: experience with budgeting, financial forecasting, annual accounts, and financial reporting to funders.

  • You have a legal background and a basic understanding of Dutch law, employment, and liability issues.

  • You have knowledge of the Dutch language. Since most funding applications and internal communication are in Dutch, Dutch language proficiency is preferred.

The board plays an advisory role and is in direct connection with the small team responsible for the artistic program in the chapel. The main point of contact is the director, who also participates in the board meetings. The team currently includes a junior curator, education coordinator, communications staff member, and a close-knit group of 15 local volunteers.

HMK Hotel Maria Kapel adheres to the Governance Code Culture and endorses the Fair Practice Code and the Code of Diversity & Inclusion. The foundation is committed to better representation and believes diverse teams produce more relevant work. We therefore explicitly invite candidates from a wide range of cultural backgrounds to apply.

Curious to learn more about HMK? Do you have questions or doubts? Feel free to reach out to the director, Inez Piso-Tuncay, at inez@hotelmariakapel.nl.

You can respond with a (short) motivation letter outlining how your experience aligns with the listed competencies and attach a CV—or you may choose to respond in another way as well, for example, with a short video message.

Since we are looking for multiple board members, we may reach out to you before the application deadline to start the interview. So we encourage you to apply as soon as possible and not wait until the final deadline!
