HMK is looking for boardmembers!

Hotel Maria Kapel is looking for board members for four meetings per year | unpaid position | Closing date: November 1, 2025

Hotel Maria Kapel (HMK) is looking for two board members who want to share the knowledge and experience they have gained in their field and work together to build the future of HMK Hotel Maria Kapel. Do you have a passion for culture and contemporary art? HMK is looking for a committed and enterprising board member who can help us forge links between artists, the public, and the cultural sector. The position involves four meetings per year and interim advisory sessions of approximately three hours per month.

About the board

The board of the Hotel Maria Kapel Foundation currently consists of: Maja Bekan (chair), Klaas Visser (secretary), Suat Öğüt (board member), Rosa De Graaf (treasurer), and Csilla Klenyanszki (board member). Due to the end of the board terms of both Klaas Visser and Suat Öğüt, we are looking for two new board members. The new composition will then vote on the new positions and roles within the board. The board has an advisory role and is in direct contact with the small team that designs the program in the chapel. The point of contact is the director, with whom the board meetings take place. In addition, the team currently consists of the junior curator, education coordinator, communications officer, and a close-knit team of 15 local volunteers.

What will you be doing?

As a board member, you will be an ambassador for our program in the chapel, with artists in residence and inspiring activities. You will contribute ideas about the strategic positioning of HMK and convey our vision with conviction. Thanks to your social and political awareness, you will identify developments and translate them into opportunities for our foundation. You will bring people and ideas together, maintain and expand our network, preferably also locally. In addition, you will assess policies, ask critical questions, and ensure that our work always aligns with our core values.

Your profile

The Hotel Maria Kapel Foundation is open to enthusiastic board members from various fields. We are looking for two people who can complement the board and identify with some of the following core competencies:

  • You have knowledge and experience with culture and contemporary art.

  • You have knowledge of the cultural institutional landscape and are aware of developments.

  • You are sensitive to your environment; you have a social and political antenna.

  • You are a good communicator; you have a command of the Dutch language, dare to ask critical questions, and can apply for funds.

  • You are a connector; you develop, maintain, and utilize relationships and contacts within a (municipal or provincial) network.

  • You are analytical; you can distinguish between main and side issues and can quickly gain insight into figures and business strategies.

  • You have knowledge of employment practices. This includes HR and organizational psychology; inclusion, representation, or diversity work; or outreach, engagement, and public relations work.

  • You have a legal background and basic knowledge of Dutch law, employment practices, and liability.

Apply

Will you be our new board member? Great! You can apply until November 1, 2025. For this vacancy, we ask you to upload your resume only. We also have three questions for you. We consider your answers to these questions to be your motivation (letter). We value a diverse and inclusive organization and want to select candidates as objectively as possible.
