In the cinema: Sveske Ourø, 'Surrendering to Domesticated Pieces of Grass'

As part of het project Green, green, - gras! by Sveske Ourø, her video-performance Surrendering to Domesticated Pieces of Grass is on view in the cinema from 18 April to 30 May.

Departing from her fascination for the existence of small patches of grass that lay scattered randomly across every city, Sveske’s video-performance is an attempt to activate them into being. Well-maintained and clean-cut but otherwise lacking a clear purpose or function, these plots exist isolated, dormant and mostly unnoticed - in a way, echoing a feeling of loneliness shared by so many humans. By lying down on these ‘grass beds’, Sveske becomes one with them, in an embodied synergy of shared experiences, turning a non-action into an evoking action that unpicks the particularities of domestication, nature-nurture and the absurdity of human existence.

2021, public interruption, video-performance, duration video: 7:35 min.
Camera and photography: Maëlle Tocaben
