HMK presenteert: “Life of a Craphead”

Life of a Craphead is een conceptueel comedy duo uit Canada, dat bestaat uit beeldend kunstenaars Jon McCurley en Amy Lam. Binnen hun voorstellingen spelen Lam en McCurley met de grenzen tussen comedy, theater en beeldende kunst. In HMK bouwt Life of a Craphead samen met muzikant/timmerman Matt Smith en kunstenaar/decorontwerpster Nikki Woolsey een overrompelende totaalomgeving, een 'storytelling cube', waarbinnen het publiek wordt meegevoerd in een verhaal over Amy, het meisje dat in een put viel. Life of a Craphead onderzoekt in HMK op absurdistische en groteske wijze hoe populaire comedy binnen een kunstcontext kan functioneren, en doet dit op een 'imperfecte, maar fantastische' manier.
De eerste voorstelling van Life of a Craphead vindt plaats op zondag 25 april, om 16:00uur.
Lam en McCurley maken in hun performances gebruik van afwijkende narratieve technieken, en een absurde inzet van kunsthistorische en theatrale conventies. Life of a Craphead treedt vaak op in traditioneel met comedy geassocieerde locaties zoals comedy clubs, maar ook in tentoonstellingsruimtes of zelfs banken en restaurants. Binnen hun performances overschrijden Lam en McCurley op sympathieke wijze de grenzen van zowel de traditionele comedy als de beeldende kunst, en tonen daarmee direct aan wat de kunst al dan niet vermag.
Amy Lam en Jon McCurley werken sinds 2006 samen als het duo Life of a Craphead. Vorig jaar traden ze op in een toneelstuk, dat ze tegelijkertijd onhoorbaar maakten door in de naastgelegen ruimte harde muziek af te spelen. Lam en McCurley werken tijdens hun project in HMK samen met Matt Smith en Nikki Woolsey. Smith werkte eerder samen met Life of a Craphead, en is zelf muzikant en timmerman. Woolsey is kunstenaar en scenografe, en deed eerder de production design voor de film Higglety Pigglety Pop, een korte film met Meryl Streep en Spike Jonze. Lam, McCurley, Smith en Woolsey zijn allen afkomstig uit Toronto, Canada.

HMK presents: “Life of a Craphead”

“Amy's Story' is based on the true story of a boy who fell down a well and died, except it happens to Amy and she survives.”
Life of a Craphead is a conceptual comedy duo from Canada, and consists of visual artists Jon McCurley and Amy Lam. In their shows, Lam and McCurley navigate the boundaries between comedy, theatre and visual art. For HMK, Life of a Craphead collaborates with musician/carpenter Matt Smith and artist/setdesigner Nikki Woolsey, to create an overwhelming theatrical experience that captivates its audience with the thrilling story of Amy, the girl that fell into a well. Life of a Craphead absurdly and grotesquely investigates how popular comedy functions within an artistic context and tells the true story of Amy in a 'flawed but awesome' way.
The first show of Life of a Craphead will take place on Sunday the 25th of april, at 4 PM.
In their performances, Lam and McCurley often use diverging narrative techniques, while applying an absurd approach of arthistoric rules and theatrical conventions. Life of a Craphead mostly performs at traditional comedy locations such as comedy clubs, but they also perform in artspaces and even banks and restaurants. In their shows, Lam and McCurley sympathetically cross the boundaries of visual arts, thus showing what art can and cannot do.
Amy Lam and Jon McCurley have been working together since 2006, when they formed Life of a Craphead. Last year they performed a play, which they made inaudible by simultaneously playing loud music in an adjacent room. In HMK, Lam and McCurley team up with Matt Smith and Nikki Woolsey. Smith worked with Life of a Craphead before, and is a musician/producer and carpenter. Woolsey is an artist and setdesigner, who did the production design for Higglety Pigglety Pop, a short movie with Meryl Streep and Spike Jonze. Lam, McCurley, Smith and Woolsey all live and work in Toronto, Canada.
