HOTEL MARIAKAPEL presents PrintROOM, a growing collection of artists? printed matter, initiated by ROOM, an artist run initiative based in Rotterdam.

PrintROOM was initiated in 2003 out of the fascination for artist's printed matter and the need for a platform to present and exchange ideas in printed form. The collection is built entirely on publications donated and collected through ROOM's network. The project supports artists who, by making their own publications, create their own space for presenting their ideas.

The first presentation of the PrintROOM collection took place in 2003 in the former space of ROOM in Rotterdam. Since then, PrintROOM travels to initiatives and institutes in the Netherlands and abroad. Earlier editions took place at Clubs inc. (Melbourne 2003), Witte de With, center for contemporary art (Rotterdam 2003 and 2005), Het Wilde Weten (Rotterdam 2004) and Waygood (Newcastle 2005). 

With each presentation there is a call for participation to donate new publications to the collection. Also, one or more new publications are produced on site.

In HOTEL MARIAKAPEL a group of guest editors is working on a new publication with the working title ROOM in HOTEL MARIA. During the opening on Sunday 30 October the first version of this publication will be presented. 

Daily, a new guest is invited to make a choice from the collection and to present their choice in the Reading ROOM in HOTEL MARIAKAPEL. This daily choice can also be followed on the ROOM website (www.roomweb.nl)

PrintROOM is open for the public during the work period from 16 october onwards.
