Hoorn Stories is a project by British artist
Anna Oliver. She will be making a map of Hoorn, based not on roads and buildings but based on peoples' experiences. To make the work, she collects stories of events which have affected people personally and which have happened in Hoorn: short stories (10-150 words) of what happened, how it made them feel, plus the location of where it happened.
Anna Oliver exhibited in 2002/2003 a.o. in London and Farnham, in The map is not the Territory with Cornelia Parker, Tracey Emin and others.
For
John Pym the religious history of the chapel was the starting point for the installation Twisted Space: a constructed space that deals with protection as well as confinement. 'On entering the space, everything looks normal. This resonance with reality begins to fade as you physically work your way into the installation and sever your links with the outside world. Creeping doubt and disorientation begin to manifest themselves. I don?t remember this? Are we in the right place?'
John Pym and Danielle van Zuijlen (Hotel Mariakapel) met earlier this year in Melbourne when both took part in the exhibition The Labyrinthine Effect (Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, with Bruce Nauman, Ilya Kabakov, Rodney Graham and others; curator: Juliana Engberg.) In Melbourne, Pym constructed a large labyrinthine installation, gradually becoming narrower as one went further into the space.
Dirk van Lieshout The performance-like character of Dirk van Lieshout's work makes the public part of his enterprises. During conversations on potential work for Hotel Mariakapel the following terms passed by: religion, commerce, data base, nuns, science fiction. Through his inspirations, the chapel can regain its original function as house of prayer in a contemporary or futuristic way.
